“Makibaka, ‘wag matakot.” Yep, it’s Labor Day alright. The sound of kalderos endlessly clanked by protesters, the banners, the megaphones. If you were a foreigner, you’d probably think it’s some kind of festival. But to us Pinoys, it’s just the annual ranting of militant groups, and the signal for the rest of us to find alternate routes to avoid being forced to watch the burning of the president’s effigy’s head.
Don’t they get tired and bored of parading in the streets, calling out the officials of the government, believing what they do actually influences what the trapos think and how they act? Jack Nicholson just turned 75. At most, we have about 10 to 15 more years to enjoy his iconic acting and legendary tantrums at the Staples Center. But as my collections of the past started to pile on with age, I started thinking if I continued remembering little details of what I encounter every day, then I wasn’t too sure if I’d be able to fit it all in memory once I reach my forties. And at some point, I started seeing it as pointless. But little did I know that, deciding to overlook one insignificant snippet after another would later ignite my troubles of remembering in the present.

Nowadays, dictate me a phone number and it’s completely wiped from existence even before I reach the last three digits. Even my mom, who’s forty-something years my senior, pokes fun at how I’m on the fast track to Alzheimer’s hell. Friends have mockingly asked if I just came back from the dead or if I was busy visiting some distant unnamed planet. This is because I’ve been known to forget events, days, and even entire years.
